“Więcej świata” - the new monthly magazine of “Gazeta Wyborcza”

“Więcej świata” - the new monthly magazine of “Gazeta Wyborcza”

The first issue of “Więcej świata” magazine will be published together with “Gazeta Wyborcza” on Tuesday, 22 May. It was prepared for readers interested in information from abroad. It presents texts from the world's media, especially leading European dailies associated in the prestigious Leading European Newspaper Alliance (LENA).

At the end of April this year “Gazeta Wyborcza” joined the elite press club LENA and thanks to this cooperation it created a new website Wyborcza.pl/wiecejswiata. All this in response to the expectations of readers of the paper edition of “Gazeta Wyborcza” and digital content subscribers who are interested in information from the world and want to get to know the publications of foreign media. Starting from 22 May, the content will also be available in the traditional form - as “Więcej świata” magazine it will be published with “Gazeta Wyborcza” once a month, on Tuesdays.

- According to the results of the research of readership and letters to the editorial office, the readers of “Gazeta Wyborcza” want more information about the world, European politics and global social and economic processes. It is hard to imagine more interesting expectations towards the editorial team. Readers want more world, so our answer is simple - “Więcej świata” [English: More world], in paper and digital editions - comments Jerzy Wójcik, the publisher of “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

On 24 pages of “Więcej śwata” the readers will find texts from the editorial team of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, articles from large European media (members of LENA) and texts from “The Wall Street Journal”, with which “Gazeta Wyborcza” has been cooperating since 2017. The publications will cover a wide range of topics, from technology, through social and political topics, to interviews with cinema stars. It is a supplement to the content published in the foreign section of “Gazeta Wyborcza” and a compilation of noteworthy articles available at Wyborcza.pl/wiecejswiata.

The editor-in-chief of the magazine is Mariusz Kania, who is also responsible for the Więcej świata website at Wyborcza.pl - Wyborcza.pl/wiecejswiata.

Sample topics from the first issue:

- article on identitarian movements across Europe and networks of close links between them;

- analysis of German industry, which wants to enter the fourth industrial revolution, using artificial intelligence, but does not know how to do it;

- interview with Werner Herzog, film director;

- material about contemporary right-wing populism, which was born in Carinthia and died in the fight against Austrian social democracy.

Tuesday's offer of “Gazeta Wyborcza” will be extended thanks to the publication of this new monthly. As a result, the price of the newspaper will change - the issue of “Gazeta Wyborcza” with “Więcej świata” magazine will cost PLN 4.99.

The publication of the magazine is supported by a promotional campaign: self-promotion in “Gazeta Wyborcza” and on the Wyborcza.pl website, promotion on the Internet and on radio (TOK FM).

Cooperation with the media from all over the world is another way for “Gazeta Wyborcza” to expand sources of information and technological competence.

In April this year, “Gazeta Wyborcza” joined the prestigious Leading European Newspaper Alliance, an alliance of newspapers aimed at raising journalistic standards, combining editorial work on important materials and promoting high quality journalism in Europe. The editorial team of “Gazeta Wyborcza” is the first to join the group of founders of LENA, i.e. 7 leading titles from 6 European countries: “Die Welt” from Germany, “El País” from Spain, “La Repubblica” from Italy, “Le Figaro” from France, “Le Soir” from Belgium, and “Tages-Anzeiger” and “Tribune de Genève” from Switzerland. In total, LENA members can boast of reaching almost 7 million readers of traditional editions and almost 43 million unique website users. More than 2,500 journalists work in their editorial offices (data available at: http://lena.news).

Earlier, in 2017, “Gazeta Wyborcza” became a partner of inter alia the French-German Arte television, the German RBB TV, the EURACTIV European news portal and Google. It also started working with “The Wall Street Journal”, the prestigious American daily. As a result, Polish readers can buy access to the digital edition of the newspaperm, while “Gazeta Wyborcza” as well as Wyborcza.pl publish the most interesting articles from “WSJ” in Polish translation.
