The 76th edition of the World News Media Congress is behind us - a summary of the first ever edition in Poland, hosted by the Agora Group

On May 4 - 6 this year, one of the most important events in the global media industry - the 76th World News Media Congress - took place at the ICE Congress Center in Krakow. For the first time in its long history, the congress visited Poland, and the Agora Group had the honor of serving as host of the event.

The congress was attended by nearly a thousand guests from 62 countries. During the event, participants had the opportunity to learn about the role that Poland - and Agora's media - have played and continue to play in defending freedom of speech and democracy in both Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. Participants learned about Poland as a country with a rich history, culture, and significant contributions in support of Ukraine.

- Today, when populism is gaining ground in so many parts of the world, Poland is sending a clear message that we are not doomed to lies, propaganda and disinformation, and that independent journalism plays a key role today. We must be strong, because the enemies of truth have never been more dangerous, and our mission has never been more important or urgent," said Bartosz Hojka, president of the Agora Group, during the opening ceremony of the Congress.

Agora Group was active not only as a host, but also as a participant in key debates. Expert panels and accompanying events were attended by Agora Group representatives who presented the perspective of Polish and European media on current challenges. Discussions included Bartosz Hojka, Bartłomiej Chmiel, Paweł Czajkowski, among others, and panels were moderated by Bartosz Wieliński, Aleksandra Sobczak and Roman Imielski.

The theme of this year's congress was “Mastering Media's New Playbook,” i.e. perfecting the new rules of modern media. There were more than 100 international speakers in Krakow, and the event's program focused on the challenges facing media organizations in an era of rapid technological and political change, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in journalism. Rebuilding public trust in traditional media and countering disinformation were also important topics.

Media patrons of the event were “Gazeta Wyborcza,” Radio TOK FM, Radio ZET, Gazeta.pl, AMS, Polish Television and the Polish Press Agency. Orlen was the strategic partner of the event, and the PZU Foundation and the City of Cracow were the partners.
