In the face of concerns about the future and independence of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, we declare that the announced process of integration of “Gazeta Wyborcza” and Gazeta.pl into one business division does not violate the independence of the editorial office of “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
The integration assumes strengthening Wyborcza.pl and Gazeta.pl on the competitive internet market. Its main goals are: increase in the number of Wyborcza.pl subscribers thanks to better use of the reach of the free Gazeta.pl portal, improvement of editorial cooperation, and thus limiting internal competition for users' attention and creating a joint advertising offer.
The independence of the media is a value that lies at the heart of company's operations. For over 30 years, Agora has been upholding the freedom of the media in Poland and has taken steps to ensure “Gazeta Wyborcza's” financial and organizational stability necessary to carry out its mission. The company's Management Board has never interfered with and had no intention of interfering with the substantive and personal decisions of the editors of "Gazeta Wyborcza".
The emotions that accompany the announcement of integration relate primarily to issues of competence, i.e. who and in what manner should make decisions about the organizational structure and personnel in positions outside editorial offices. The editors felt left out of this process.
Our priority is to resolve the dispute within the company and start the talks with the editorial office about the future of “Gazeta Wyborcza”. Until these talks are completed, we are suspending the integration process at this stage. We would like to thank all the friends of “Gazeta Wyborcza” and Agora who expressed their concerns for the future and strength of “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
We assure all Agora employees that we are looking for a solution that will be the best for the entire company.
