Photojournalists of “Gazeta Wyborcza” awarded in the Grand Press Photo 2022 competition

Jędrzej Nowicki – a photographer cooperating with “Gazeta Wyborcza” and Tomasz Pietrzyk – a photojournalist from “Wyborcza Wrocław”, were among the authors of photographs awarded in the Current Events category in this year's edition of the Nationwide Press Photography Competition – Grand Press Photo 2022. The results were announced at a ceremonial gala held yesterday, on 2 June, in Warsaw.

In the 18th edition of the Grand Press Photo competition, Jędrzej Nowicki, a photojournalist, was awarded the first place in the Current Events category for a photograph of the central station Lviv, which he took for “Gazeta Wyborcza” on the day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine – on 24 February 2022.

A photo by Tomasz Pietrzyk, a photojournalist of “Gazeta Wyborcza Wrocław”, placed third in the same category. It was taken on Sunday, 8 August 2021 in Lubin and shows protests against police brutality. The awarded photograph shows a woman lying on the street before the police car moving in her direction on the street, armed with a water cannon. Next to the car, there is a police cordon equipped with shields and helmets. For more information, visit Wyborcza.pl.
