Agora and TP Group Execute Research under the World Internet Project in Poland

Press release

The international research of World Internet Project focuses on analysis of the impact of the Internet and new technologies on social, economic and political affairs, with renowned institutions from all over the world taking part. The first project under this program in Poland shall be managed by Agora and TP Group.

Thanks to the initiative of TP Group and Agora SA acting as the project's exclusive Polish partner, Poland has joined the countries engaged in the World Internet Project. The research is conducted by means of the individual or telephone interview method on a sample of 2000 respondents answering questions regarding the Internet, such as: the time and mode of online media consumption, safety on the web, contacts with social network, impact of the Internet on respondents' awareness of public issues or information credibility.

- We pick the most qualified research center or company in each country, which then becomes the exclusive partner of the project. We were really impressed by the study, presented by researchers of Gazeta.pl portal in 2009 entitled 'The Internet Diagnosis' ("Diagnoza Internetu"*). We are convinced, that the Polish team's contribution to the project will be really huge - says Professor Jeffrey Cole, Director of the Center for the Digital Future and coordinator of World Internet Project.

Agora and TP Group commissioned the research in Poland to be executed by IPSOS. Agora acts as the project coordinator, with experts of the Research and Analysis Department of Gazeta.pl portal (www.badania.gazeta.pl) along with a team of cooperators studying the collected materials and drawing up final report.

The research is currently being executed, with results to be presented at the international WIP forum in Lisbon on 7-8 July this year. The first presentation of the report on WIP results in Poland vs. other countries participating in the project is planned for November this year.

- The project's greatest advantage is its international aspect. It's obvious that Polish online market is specific in its own way; as well is it obvious that more and more trends are going global. It would be great if our experiences were included in this analysis, so as we could refer to external data - says Maciej Witucki, TP Group President.

WIP research has been performed since 1999 for some thirty research centers all over the world, led by the prominent USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. Project partners include, among others: Oxford University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Deutsches Digital Institut, the universities of Brno, Yonsei, Macau, Tokyo as well as non-academic Internet research centers. Currently the following countries take part in the project: Italy, China, Japan, Macau, South Korea, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Hungary, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Portugal, Australia, Bolivia, Iran, Czech Republic and Poland.
