Loving Vincent opens on Friday, 6 October 2017, in cinemas across Poland. The first full-length feature painted animation, directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman is embraced by audiences around the world. The film tells the story of the last days of Vincent van Gogh. On 16 October 2017 NEXT FILM and Gazeta Wyborcza invite you to meet the creators in Centrum Premier Czerska 8/10.

At 28, Vincent van Gogh was a failure, a man who had lost three consecutive jobs, living in a shed in a mining town of Borinage in Belgium, with nothing but a couple of books as his only possessions. Ten years later he became a major artistic sensation in Paris. Over the 10 weeks spent in Auvers shortly before his death, van Gogh painted 70 canvasses, only one of which would sell while he was still alive. Currently, his paintings reach record-breaking prices and the artist himself is considered by many one of the greatest of all times. Loving Vincent is an engrossing crime story that tells the story of his passionate and unhappy life and mysterious death van Gogh’s art through the imagery of his art.

Loving Vincent was filmed as an original feature and then each of the 65 thousand frames was hand painted one of by 125 professional artists, making van Gogh’s paintings ‘come to life’ and ‘speak’ to present the painter’s life and unveil the circumstances of his mysterious death. 

The authors of the screenplay are Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman and Jacek Dehnel. Polish voice actors include Olga Frycz, Danuta Stenka, Zofia Wichłacz, Jerzy Bończak,  Jerzy Stuhr, Maciej Stuhr, Józef Pawłowski and Robert  Więckiewicz.

The production has already captivated cinema viewers around the world. It won the audience award at the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival and the Golden Goblet for Best Animation Film at the Shanghai International Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Animated Feature Oscar.

Polish premiere of the film took place at the 2017 Film Festival in Gdynia.

Loving Vincent is distributed in Poland by NEXT FILM a member of Agora Group. Operating in film production and distribution, NEXT FILM has been on the market for five years. Founded in 2012, the brand specializes in the distribution of domestic film productions.

In the first half of 2017 films distributed by NEXT FILM (Po prostu przyjaźń, Sztuka kochania. Historia Michaliny Wisłockiej and Pokot) were watched by over 2.7 million viewers, which constitutes 50.67 per cent of all the viewership of all Polish films the relevant period.

Tarapaty – the latest Polish film production distributed by NEXT FILM, reached a record-breaking opening weekend figure in the segment of family cinema, and within two weeks from the opening the title has been seen by over 150 thousand cinema goers.

In April 2017 NEXT FILM expanded their operations into film production and their first title shall be Plan B directed by Kinga Dębska. The film is scheduled to open in cinemas in February 2018.
