Since 2010 has been the owner of Helios SA. Through dynamic growth and successful acquisitions, the brand that has developed Poland’s largest chain of multiplex cinemas. Helios currently operates 44 cinema theatres around Poland, with as many as 241 screens and over 49 thousand seats. The chain is present mostly in medium-size towns, with some in Poland’s largest cities, including Łódź, Poznań, TriCity and Wrocław.
Most of Helios cinemas were opened between 2005 and 2008 and are thus thoroughly modern facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, inviting interiors and interesting architecture. Helios cinemas offer its users the best quality of viewing experience through the use of state-of-the-art sound and picture systems, such as digital projectors with DOLBY 3D and HFR technology, capable of showing films at 48 frames per second. All Helios cinemas are equipped with digital projection systems.
Helios cinemas screen latest film releases in 2D and 3D technology as well as – in some locations – amateur and independent titles. Helios organizes special events in their cinemas around Poland as well as film cycles. Cinemagoers are offered screenings in cycles such as Kino Konesera, Kultura Dostępna, Kino Kobiet, Nocne Maratony Filmowe, Kino na Temat, Helios dla Dzieci and Helios na Scenie. In selected locations Helios cinemas also deliver original programs for children and youth.
As a producer, Agora has been involved in the production of over ten pictures, including record-breaking popular titles such as Bogowie directed by Łukasz Palkowski, Po prostu przyjaźń dir. by Filip Zylber or Sztuka kochania. Historia Michaliny Wisłockiej by Maria Sadowska, as well as Polish films awarded on Polish and international festivals, including the winner of Berlin Festival Silver Bear Pokot by Agnieszka Holland or Jestem mordercą a picture by Maciej Pieprzyca awarded with Silver Lions at Gdynia Film Festival and Orzeł (Eagle) Polish Film Award. Since May 2017, Agora Group has conducted all its film production activities through NEXT FILM.
NEXT FILM specializes in promotion and distribution of Polish projects. So far they have released nearly 30 domestic and foreign titles to Polish cinemas, including all films produced or co-produced by Agora. NEXT FILM was responsible for the distribution of titles such as: Drogówka, directed by Wojciech Smarzowski, Bogowie, dir. Łukasz Palkowski, Po prostu przyjaźń, dir. by Filip Zylber, Sztuka kochania. Historia Michaliny Wisłockiej dir. by Maria Sadowska, Pokot by Agnieszka Holland and Tarapaty Marta Karwowska – Poland’s most popular production for youth.
The catalogue of NEXT FILM includes also foreign projects such as the highly successful paint-animated Loving Vincent directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman. NEXT FILM has operated in the film market since 2012
Active in a majority of media industries on the Polish market, in 2013 Agora Group also entered the television segment. To do so, the company mobilized their considerable potential, including a number of widely recognized brands and high competences of our teams.
Stopklatka TV, a film channel managed by Stopklatka SA, was launched 2014. Agora SA and Kino Polska TV SA are the main owners of Stopklatka SA and the licence for broadcasting Stopklatka TV was issued by the National Broadcasting Council on 30 October 2013. The station began broadcasting on 15 March 2014 and was Poland’s first film channel available in a terrestrial network.
Stopklatka TV broadcasts a wide variety of foreign and Polish films. The viewers can choose from amongst the most entertaining comedies, compelling thrillers, cult status series, stirring documentaries, classic westerns, gripping crime and mystery, costume drama, animation for children and epic film productions. Along with the programming variety, Stopklatka’s major strength is free access and wide availability and maximum coverage – available both through digital terrestrial network and on cable and satellite platforms.
The next move in developing Agora’s television business was launching METRO, a lifestyle channel in the frequency slot secured in MUX-8 terrestrial digital television multiplex. METRO was launched in December 2016 and has been successfully holding a leading position among the channels in the eight multiplex, with steadily growing viewership figures.
Due to the lower than planned coverage of MUX-8 Agora decided to develop the channel with a strategic partner Discovery Polska Sp. z o.o., and then sell all shares of METRO to Green Content Sp. z o.o., the publisher of METRO. On 9 December 2016 in cooperation with Agora, Discovery Polska purchased 49 of the shares in Green Content, and on 1 September 2017 became the owner of 100 percent of shares in Green Content.
