"Powstanie Warszawskie" ("Warsaw Uprising") film in cinemas since 9th of May

 Press release

The film "Powstanie Warszawskie" ("Warsaw Uprising") premieres today, on the 9th of May. It is the first non-fiction war film in the world, produced by the Warsaw Uprising Museum and distributed by Next Film (a Helios Group subsidiary).

"Powstanie Warszawskie" is an extra-ordinary film, edited exclusively from documentary film material. It tells the story of the most popular Polish uprising via a story of two reporters - witnesses of the uprising fights.

The film uses two authentic newsreels dated August 1944. They have been coloured and reconstructed, and with the help of the best creators, its authors were able to create something that is very unique.

6 hours of genuine Uprising newsreels, 7 months of work, consultants to the military, clothing, architecture as well as city planners, Warsaw history specialists and historians, 1000 hours of colour consultations, 1200 shots, 1440 hours of colouring and reconstruction, 112,000 selected stills, 648,000 minutes of reconstructing, 22,971,520 megabytes of data - these are only some numbers which will make the audience aware of the effort and resources put into the film "Powstanie Warszawskie". The result is 85 minutes of reconstructed, coloured film which shows Warsaw Uprising with an unprecedented realism.

"Powstanie Warszawskie" was produced by Warsaw Uprising Museum and is distributed by Next Film.

The executive producer is Piotr C. Śliwowski, Head of the Historical Section in Warsaw Uprising Museum. The author of the idea for the story is Jan Komasa. The screenplay was created by Joanna Pawluśkiewicz, Jan Ołdakowski and Piotr C. Śliwowski. The dialogues were written by Joanna Pawluśkiewicz and Michał Sufin. The characters were dubbed by Maciej Nawrocki, Michał Żurawski and Mirosław Zbrojewicz. The dubbing director was Miriam Aleksandrowicz. The visual materials were coloured by the renown Piotr Sobociński, Jr. The music was composed by Bartosz Chajdecki whereas Bartosz Putkiewicz was responsible for the sound. The film was edited by Joanna Brühl, under the supervision of Milenia Fidler.
