Four journalists of "Gazeta Wyborcza" among the winners of the Grand Press 2015

On Thursday, 10th of December, the winners of Grand Press Awards for best journalistic materials of 2015 were announced. Among the winners there were four journalists of "Gazeta Wyborcza" - Vadim Makarenko (Grand Press Digital), Piotr Pacewicz (Best Interview), Justyna Kopińska (Best Press Reportage) and Grzegorz Sroczynski (3rd place in the Journalist of the Year category). Congratulations!

Grand Press are awarded for the best journalistic work in the past year. This year 668 works were submitted and the jury nominated 51 materials to the final competition.

Justyna Kopinska won the Best Press Reportage category for her article published in "Duzy Format" magazine. "Oddział chorych ze strachu" is a shocking text revealing the impunity of the former head of the Youth Department of psychiatric hospital in Starogard Gdanski, who has not yet been punished for abusing patients.

Piotr Pacewicz was awarded for the Best Interview - "Zupa z maryski" is an interview with Dorota Gudaniec, a mother of first child in Poland treated with medical marijuana. The interview was published in "Wysokie Obcasy".

Once again, the special prizes have been awarded. Grand Press Digital went to Vadim Makarenko, who successfully leads the data journalism project: BIQdata.pl, a site combining professional journalism with technology.

Konrad Piasecki of radio RMF FM was chosen as the Journalist of the Year. The winner of this award is not selected by the jury, but the journalists themselves - 77 editorial teams propose candidates and give them points. This year there were five finalists in this category and Grzegorz Sroczyński of "Gazeta Wyborcza" took the third place.

Among the nominees for Grand Press Awards 2015 were many journalists of "Gazeta Wyborcza".

Jacek Harłukowicz of "Gazeta Wyborcza Wrocław" received a nomination in the category Investigative Journalism. "Niebezpieczne związki?", "Ukrócone mętne związki" and "Urząd Miasta bada swoje związki z Inter-Systemem" were a series of articles about how one capital group managed to dominate the public procurement for the municipality of Wroclaw.over the years.

In the category Press Reportage all nominees were the journalists of "Gazeta Wyborcza". Besides the award-winning Justyna Kopińska, the nominees were as follows:

- Anna Śmigulec for reportage "Miłość z piasku" for "Duzy Format" magazine - a story of love fulfilled after 43 years,

- Jaroslaw Mikołajewski for a confession-reportage "Rozmowa z ojcem" for "Magazyn Swiateczny" of "Gazeta Wyborcza" - an article in which the son draws emotional image of the father, discovering after many years how much they are alike,

- Grzegorz Szymanik was nominated twice for the materials for "Duzy Format": a text entitled "Pisarz, który wymyślił wojnę" about three writers from eastern Ukraine, the authors of books about the war in Ukraine - only that they invented the war before it actually came to them; and "Szklane dreszcze" - a reportage about users of webcam sites and virtual reality in which they live, spend money and earn Money.

In the Interview category, besides Piotr Pacewicz, were nominated:

- Katarzyna Kubisiowska for the interview "Jest czas obłapiania i jest czas miłości" with writer Jerzy Pilch about how the disease changed his perception of old age ("Magazyn Swiateczny" of "Gazeta Wyborcza"),

- Ewa Wołkanowska-Kołodziej for "Kiedy w lustrze nie widzisz szkieletu" - a conversation about how this disease can destroy a relationship with a partner of anorexic women ("Wysokie Obcasy" magazine).

In the category of Specialist Journalism nomination were awarded to:

- "Dieslom dziekujemy!" by Artur Włodarski of "Gazeta Wyborcza" - a text showing that Europeans poison themselves with diesel exhaust, and the Poles twice as much, because cutting filters is indiscriminate and unpunished,

- "Haruj całe życie, będziesz biedny" by Aleksandra Lipczak for "Magazyn Swiateczny" of "Gazeta Wyborcza" - an article in which the author demonstrates that people work better when they work less and working overtime does not ensure prosperity.

The jury of this year's edition of the Grand Press were: Marek Błonski (Polish Press Agency), Roman Czejarek (First Program of the Polish Radio), Ewa Ewart (TVN 24), Piotr Gabryel ("Tygodnik do Rzeczy"), Renata Gluza ("Press"), Jerzy Jurecki ("Tygodnik Podhalański"), Marcin Kowalczyk ("Express Ilustrowany"), Piotr Mucharski ("Tygodnik Powszechny"), Jacek Snopkiewicz (Telewizja Polska), Andrzej Skworz ("Press"), Radosław Slawinski (Polsat Play), Tadeusz Sołtys (RMF FM), Marek Curd ("Dziennik Zachodni"), Michel Viatteau (Agence France-Presse), Jacek Zakowski ("Polityka").
