"Gazeta Wyborcza" with over 77 thousand paid digital subscriptions and a new goal for 2016

Press release

At the end of December, 2015 the number of paid digital subscriptions of "Gazeta Wyborcza" reached more than 77 thousand*, marking an increase of more than 22 thousand paid subscriptions as at the end of 2014. Thus, the daily reached the goal of the number of paid digital subscriptions a year earlier than it was planned.

'It is a huge success of both "Gazeta Wyborcza" and Wyborcza.pl, and a further evidence of the right choice of business model transformation. Being faithful to the foundations of "Gazeta Wyborcza's" success, involving high quality journalism combined with modern form and a whole new way of communicating, also with new audiences, resulted in more than 77 thousand paid digital subscriptions at the end of 2015', says Robert Musiał, a member of the Management Board of Agora SA.

The dynamic growth of the number of paid digital subscriptions of "Gazeta Wyborcza" is the result of continuous development of digital literacy and systematic implementation of the project of the daily's digital transformation. "Gazeta Wyborcza" is the first Polish daily which introduced in February 2014 the system of limited free access to its content and offered paid digital subscriptions. In less than a year, at the end of 2014, the number of paid digital subscriptions totaled nearly 55 thousand and it was overperformed by 40 thousand subscriptions. The key factor in building the success of "Gazeta Wyborcza's" digital offer was its extension to packages for institutional clients in 4Q2014. This good result was also strongly influenced by the implementation in June 2015 "Gazeta Wyborcza's" own platform for selling digital content and the use of Big Data tools.

'Thanks to our own content-selling platform, the use of new technologies and active dialogue with the customers, we know the needs of our readers better and we are able to react faster. The result is a significant acceleration of the implementation of the goal that we have set. Achieving the level of over 77 thousand paid digital subscriptions earlier than planned, gives us the courage to appoint a next ambitious goal: at the end of 2016 we would like to build a base of about 90 thousand paid digital subscriptions of "Gazeta Wyborcza"', adds Robert Musiał.

Detailed information about the number of paid digital subscriptions of "Gazeta Wyborcza" will be presented by the Company along with the publication of the results of the Agora Group for the fourth quarter of 2015 on February 18th, 2016.

* The total number of paid digital subscriptions consist of weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual paid subscriptions purchased on websites of "Gazeta Wyborcza" and its weeklies ("Wysokie Obcasy", "Duży Format", "Ale Historia," "Wysokie Obcasy Extra" "Książki. Magazyn do czytania"). Paid digital subscription can also be purchased at National Piano, the online bookstore Publio.pl as well as mobile applications for tablets and smartphones with iOS, Windows 8 and Android.
