Mariusz Szczygieł from "Gazeta Wyborcza" with a title of journalist of the year 2013. The title was granted by other journalists in the competition organized by the magazine "Press".
Mariusz Szczygiel received the award for the reportage entitled "Sliczny i posluszny" published in "Duzy Format". He described the history of the woman who 30 years ago beat her stepson to death and after serving the sentence and erasure of the conviction worked as a teacher.
The title of the Journalist of the Year is granted for the professionalism, promotion of the world standards of the work in media and compliance with the ethical code of professional behavior. The nominees are submitted by editorial teams of Polish newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations and Internet portals.
The journalists were also awarded with Grand Press awards for the best materials from press, radio and TV in 2013. There were three journalists of "Gazeta Wyborcza" among the winners of Grand Press awards.
Agnieszka Kublik won the news category for the article "Trzej zamachowcy". She wrote about lack of competence and evidence to support the theories of Antoni Macierewicz' team of experts dedicated to Smolensk tragedy.
Bartosz T. Wieliński received an award for press reportage entitled " Jestes nr 71". The text was dedicated to the tragic stories of children taken away from single mothers and poor families after the Second World War in Austrian orphanages.
Donata Subbotko won an interview category for her conversation with the writer Jozef Hen published in "Magazyn Swiateczny" in "Gazeta Wyborcza".
The Grand Press awards and the title Journalist of the Year were granted on Friday, December 13th in Warsaw.
