"Gazeta Wyborcza" and Sport.pl were ranked second in the best publishing projects related to Euro 2008 international contest. Jury particularly recognized a "miniEuro" football contest for children organized by "Gazeta" in Gdansk.
- What is striking in the entry of "Gazeta Wyborcza" is that a newspaper not really known internationally for its sports section proves to be a perfect example of knowing what people are emotionally involved with. All possible Agora media were used. An extra touch with events is very interesting, but especially the competition for young people of 11 years old that makes a point that football players don't come out from the blue: you have to find them, engage them, train them, until they grow up. - was the comment of the jury on "Gazeta''s" project.
"Gazeta Wyborcza” prepared series of articles and special thematic supplement related to Euro 2008 and editorial office in Gdansk organized a football cup for children. Agora launched Euro 2008 thematic website and expanded Zczuba.pl service.
Sport.pl users were offered live reports from football cups and related video clips while mobile phone users could get their live reports on
Gazeta.mobi portal thanks to special "Sport - Euro 2008” application. Football fans could also win Golmania competition.
Football Media Competition was organized by International Newsmedia Marketing Association INMA. The winner of the contest, which involved publishers from all over Europe, was the Swedish daily "Aftonbladet".
"Gazeta Wyborcza" is laureate of several INMA awards, i.e. the first prize for the edition with four different front pages with pre-election slogans invented by "Gazeta's" readers, awards for "Save Rospuda Valley" campaign and a unique ad sales offer in print and on the Internet.
