Dan David Prize for Adam Michnik

Adam Michnik, Editor-in-Chief of "Gazeta Wyborcza" was presented with a prestigious Dan David Prize. The award was established by Dan David, a Jewish photographer and philanthropist together with the French Ministry of Culture. The goal of prize is to "promote the scientific, technological and humanistic achievements that advance and improve our world".

Adam Michnik was recognized in the category "Contemporary". This category is awarded to journalists safeguarding freedom and independence of press. The jury recognized Adam Michnik as a "journalist most associated with the collapse of the Soviet bloc and rise of freedom in Eastern Europe".

Other six laureates included: Magdi Allam, Deputy Editor of "Corriere della Sera", Monica Gonzalez premier investigative reporter in Chile, and Goenawan Mohamad poet, journalist and advocate of free press in Indonesia
