PORTAL'S HISTORY

The site Gazeta.pl was one of the first in the Polish Internet and it was transforming together with the whole net. In the beginning since 1993 it was a service of " Gazeta Wyborcza", and in February 2001, as a consequence of Internet strategy adopted in 2000, it was transformed into a general news portal offering its users access to communication tools, inter alia, mailbox.

Then, there were several general subject portals, many of which ceased their existence or changed the profile of activities. Most of the portals aggregated links and services, whereas Gazeta.pl focused on creation of valuable content and use of modern technology. Portal consisted of 5 main sections: Private Life (with subsections: Free Time, TV, Woman, Hobbies) Work and Money, News and Knowledge, E-Market and Your Internet.

During the first five years of portal's activities it was constantly improved, increasing its visual and functional attractiveness, adjusting it to standards of intensively developing Polish Internet market. The information and thematic services belonging to Gazeta.pl were also developed.

In June 2006, Agora started the strategy of widening and repositioning the portal's brand addressing its offer to all Internet users. The separation of brands Gazeta.pl and GazetaWyborcza.pl (currently Wyborcza.pl) was an important element of the strategy. One of the first steps was launch of a rebuilt service GazetaWyborcza.pl with a new layout, navigation and unique content in October 2006. Simultaneously, Gazeta.pl was intensively developed underlying its innovative and modern formula and universal profile. In December, new, coherent visual identification of all services was introduced and Gazeta.pl gained new logo.

Year 2006 was the beginning of an intensive development of Gazeta.pl offer. Previous services, inter alia, Wiadomosci.Gazeta.pl, Gospodarka.Gazeta.pl were refreshed and rebuilt. Since September 2006 to November 2007 several new services were added, inter alia Wideo.Gazeta.pl (currently Plej.Gazeta.pl), Moda.Gazeta.pl, Londyn.Gazeta.pl, Pogoda.Gazeta.pl. At the end of February 2007, portal had its main page redesigned to match it to high resolution. New main page was equipped with tools enabling personalization of the page, interactive bookmarks, more multimedia content and innovative solutions for presentation of local services.

In the first quarter of 2007, an advertising campaign, with the motto "Gazeta.pl Portal from the beginning", was executed. As a part of the campaign over 17 thousand Internet users created over 30 thousand banners advertising portal and its services. As a result the the brand recognition increased. Gazeta.pl increased indicators measuring the brand recognition before and after the campaign (modern, known and popular, engaged, original, opinion-making, user friendly, intelligent/wise, versatile).

Portal Gazeta.pl is constantly developed. Since the beginning of 2008, several new services were created, for example: Slowniki.Gazeta.pl or Games.Gazeta.pl, some of the services gained a refreshed layout, inter alia a popular vortal Kobieta.Gazeta.pl. Portal constantly develops its local services and enriches base of multimedia content created by own team of reporters. The content from Gazeta.pl is available in m.Gazeta.pl and, due to the cooperation with operators, in news services available in mobile phones.
