On May 30, during the Executive Board meeting of the International Press Institute in Edinburgh, Piotr Niemczycki, Deputy President of Agora's Management Board and the Publisher of "Gazeta Wyborcza", was elected the Chairmen of the Institute.
IPI was established in 1950 as a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists and is dedicated to the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedom, the protection of freedom of opinion and expression, the promotion of the free flow of news and information, and the improvement of the practices of journalism. IPI has grown into a truly global organisation with over 2000 members in over 120 countries. What began as a small enterprise in the early 1950's has expanded to become an ongoing dialogue between journalists throughout the world.
